Emergency in Pakistan

Emergency in Pakistan, is it something new? Naahhh, it’s the fifth or sixth time after the 60 years of independence. So this time when I heard it, I said what’s the big deal. I was not serious what’s so ever. But when I sat down and thought about this one especially the time at which this one is being brought, I can’t take this one so easily.

I think there are lot of difference between the previous emergencies and this one. This one is forced on for one man’s shear obsession to power – Gen. Musharaf. It’s quite obvious, there can't be any second thoughts on this, even if you are his supporter. Though he ruled the nation for almost 9 years and didn’t do much significant development for the nation, still he is reluctant to give away this throne.

Second thing that comes to my mind is the un-stability that’s prevailing in the Pakistan. Also one should remember this is the first time Pakistan with the knowledge and owning bunch of nuclear weapons enters emergency. Since I am from India, this thought makes me more nervous. But anyone could say that we don’t see any chance of war because of this emergency.

For all of you, think about the Kargil war against India under the same Gen. Musharaf rule. For me I interpret that war as a justification from the General’s side when people started asking about his action at that time. So I fear of a war between India and Pakistan just to distract the people of the nation since he is not able to justify his current action.

So what’s the solution for this problem? Is there any solution for this problem? With the current structure of Pakistan government, I fear this could continue forever. Couple of days back a party person of Ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sheriff said that its impossible to run a democratic government in Pakistan without the intervention and dependence of the military in all its action. Thus to run a democratic nation in Pakistan, the fundamental structure needs to be changed.

And when this happens, we should be able to see a change in the way the government runs hopefully in a good way.
